Positive and interactive home technology

Independent design collective and green technology experts DIY KYOTO have announced a very special new version of their award-winning and highly acclaimed wattson01 energy monitor, in the form of Silverlining, a stylish addition to the wattson family, which they have created in collaboration with cult design brand Mathmos.com, most famous for inventing the lava lamp in 1963.

Offering the ultimate consumer-driven energy monitor on the market, wattson01 Silverlining is a chic new reflective version of the original wattson01, complete with brand new clock feature and the latest Holmes software. It retails at £129.95.

Following an extensive survey of current wattson customers and owners, DIY Kyoto commit to a majority of households seeing an average annual saving of almost 20% on their electricity bills, having invested in a wattson electricity monitor – the biggest average saving of any energy monitor currently on the market offering comparable statistics.

The independently produced wattson launched in 2006 as a pioneering example of home energy monitoring technology, and the DIY KYOTO collective continue to offer the most progressive technology and interactive potential through their unique product and accompanying software packages. Its entrepreneurial creators, three Royal College of Art design graduates, have even made their way to Downing Street with their energy monitor, for a conference on the future of science in the UK.

Since the limited, handmade wood version of wattson was released, it has been widely acclaimed for its beauty and its functionality by the design, technology and environmental industries and the wider media (Vogue, Stuff, Esquire, Marie Claire, Observer, Telegraph, Independent, Guardian).

The unlimited edition wattson01 (RRP £99.95) offers a more affordable way to monitor energy levels within private households and small businesses, whilst retaining its high-end design aesthetic.

DIY KYOTO, founded by three Royal College of Art graduates – Greta Corke, Richard Woods and Jon Sawdon Smith set up the company to encourage and assist people in doing their bit for the environment and think about the amount of energy they consume on an every day basis. They now act as consultants and experts within the design, energy and environmental sectors, as well as developing additional features for the wattson and continuing to grow their forward-thinking company with a variety of new high tech, ‘design meets-green’ products in development.

wattson has a memory that can capture data for up to four weeks, which you can then download via USB to holmes software and DIY KYOTO website. This offers opportunities for interactive competitions with fellow ‘wattsonowners’, and a community of people to engage with, sharing tips and hints for saving energy.
