Energy fitness pays dividends
Savings challenge wins awards
Energy efficiency isn’t only about the material things in life, it’s about the body too! So by keeping yourself trim and mindful of cost savings, you can contribute successfully to reducing energy consumption.
One outstanding example of this is Aileen Simpson, a nursing auxiliary from Kirkcaldy, who has become winner of E.ON’s national Watt Watchers Energy Fitness Challenge. After reducing her overall energy consumption by a massive 28% in just 90 days, it is said that she should save around £270 a year on energy as a result.
The Watt Watchers Energy Fitness Challenge was launched by E.ON, to find nine families who would compete to watch their watts and become ‘energy fit’ by reducing their energy usage and ultimately their energy bills.
During the 12-week energy fitness challenge, each family was tasked with adopting a leaner, more energy-savvy attitude towards energy usage in the home.
Aileen said: “The challenge has been a great learning experience for the whole family and it’s given us the kick-start we needed to become ‘energy fit’. We’ve made a huge effort to become more aware of our energy usage and ways of reducing it, little things like switching to energy saving light bulbs really do add up. What we’ve learnt during the competition will stay with us for a lifetime.”
E.ON’s Energy Fitness Instructor, Emma Thompson, says: “Our finalists have done a fantastic job. They’ve been dedicated to changing their bad habits and have become more energy savvy by picking up tips along the way.
“In particular, Aileen really threw herself into the challenge and should be proud of her efforts. Reducing your energy usage by 28% is a huge achievement and proves to other families that it is possible.”
