UK celebrity homes need efficiency makeovers

Apparently, bespoke luxury mansions designed exclusively for celebrities and the wealthy is becoming a fast growing niche market for specialist property developers in the UK.  Some of the largest can be found in Bournemouth, which has become one of the UK's most desirable, and therefore most expensive, areas for luxury housing and a popular location for highly paid football professionals amongst others.

Local heating engineering company LA Heat (Southern Ltd) of Poole, has built quite a reputation for designing heating installations for these large exclusive properties, working in conjunction with developers New Build Severn Developments who also specialise in high profile, luxury private homes.

LA Heat specified Buderus boilers for these large installations "With the complex heating installations usually required in this type of property, and for this type of customer, it is vital we install a product we can absolutely rely on" says Andy Hoskins, director of LA Heat (Southern Ltd). "We always specify top of the range boilers for top of the range houses.  We do not want any call back problems and our reputation is very important as all our work comes through recommendations.  For this reason Buderus boilers are our first choice and they are also designed for ease of installation which makes our life easier too."

The latest exclusive property they have worked on is currently on sale at £3.9 million.  As you would expect it has just about every facility you could wish for from its own heated swimming pool, separate gym and no less than 13 plasma screen TV's throughout the home!

But 4ecotips asks, is the property economical, energy efficient with an acceptable carbon footprint? Probably not!

The heating system has cost £50,000, including a Buderus 800 boiler that has a 43kW capacity and meets the full needs of the house.  The system has five pumps - two to serve the 580 sq metre of underfloor heating, one to provide hot water for all the heated towel rails in the five bedrooms each with en-suite facilities, one to meet the domestic hot water needs and one internal. A separate Buderus 500 combi boiler heats the swimming pool and separate shower and changing facilities.

It's all very well building big houses for the stars, but it's no good if they don't if they don't embody a high degree of compassion for the environment.
