‘Green’ showerhead saves energy, money and water

No compromise on performance

The ecocamel showerhead at £24.95 is said to save an average household £140 off their annual energy bill or up to £250 if they have a water meter.

Independent tests done by the Liverpool John Moore University, found that by aerating the water inside the ecocamel showerhead, the flow rate of water per minute is cut nearly in half, from 12 litres with a conventional showerhead to 6.7 litres. Over a year, the ecocamel showerhead can save a family of four the cost of heating nearly 30,000 litres.

The showerhead not only provides a reduction on the average household utility bill, but also delivers a fine shower experience. It achieves this by producing softer, lighter, aerated water droplets, which break gently against the skin (instead of bouncing off such as they do with conventional showerheads) giving greater coverage and dramatically reducing the amount of water.

Guy Cinnamon, the company’s founder, says: ‘Our greatest challenge was to create a showerhead that saved energy, money and water and delivered an even better spa-like shower experience than a conventional showerhead. It took our team of expert designers and scientists 18 months and almost 90 pre-production models before the first prototypes came off the production line.’

The showerhead operates by ‘inhaling’ air into the water stream through a venturi device at the base of the handle, which mixes the air with the water. The pressure inside the body of the showerhead caused by the mixture of air and water causes turbulence and spins the water at high speed.

The result is a pressurised spa like shower spray which gives an enjoyable full flow performance and saves up to 45% of the water used in a conventional showerhead.
