There’s an extra £100 a year for home owners
Home owners could save up to £100 on utility bills every year by using energy more efficiently and effectively, according to Ratedpeople.com, a UK match making service for home improvers and recommended tradesmen.
They say average UK household spends around £305 a year on gas and £260 on electricity. However, cutting spend is much easier than many home owners may think and can be done so without losing any of the warmth or comfort of their homes.
By simply having a normal shower rather than a bath or power shower, the amount of water used can be reduced by as much as 50 %. Furthermore, turning down the temperature on the thermostat by just one degree can save 10 % of the overall energy consumed.
Additionally, leaving electrical appliances on standby costs the average household £37 a year, so switching them off at the wall socket can potentially be one of the most effective ways to the save money. Indeed, 85% of the energy used by a DVD player is wasted when it is on standby and a mobile phone charger alone can waste up to £10 every year.
By buying an energy efficient light bulb home owners can cut energy wastage by over 75 %. Despite costing slightly more than a normal bulb, they can last up to 12 times longer and could save up to £9 on an annual electricity bill or, £100 over the bulb's lifetime.
