Longrange weather forecast looks forwards to Spring
According to Positive Weather Solutions, Jonathan Powell, the longrange weather forecast for the first three months of the New Year brings drier and brighter weather followed by a wet and windy end to April. But the end of May ‘will feel warm!’
March
A unsettled start to March with the possibility of some wintry showers, chiefly to the north over higher ground, although amounts shouldn't give cause for concern. Having said this, Winter may well have a sting in the tail, and it may well look more like a Christmas picture postcard at times across the north east and Scotland. Temperatures on or below average to start the month. Expect some wet and windy weather through mid March, with the possibility of some flooding. Temperatures will recover to on or above the average as we pass the middle of the month.
March ends on an unsettled note, with more rain and strong winds likely, mixed in with some drier and brighter weather at times. Temperature wise, it will feel pleasantly mild, and rather Spring like, and on occasion, with some early blooming flowers will make for some pleasing scenery.
April
Any thoughts of a settled start to April will quickly evaporate, as Atlantic weather systems mean wind and rain will take control of our weather, through the early passage of the month. Temperatures on or above the average. By mid-month, whereas temperatures will show a continuing favourable trend, the unsettled conditions will dominate, but again, there will be times when it will feel quite Spring like. Rain amounts will give cause for concern, with flooding a problem.
April ends on a wet and windy note, and here too, amounts of rain will give cause for concern. A mild end to the month, and generally over all, a pleasantly semi-warm April, and virtually no threat from any late frosts.
May
An unsettled start to the month, with rain and wind very much in evidence, and as with April, flooding concerns for some parts of the UK. Temperatures will be on or above average, so it will feel pleasantly mild. By mid-month, the Atlantic influence begins to wane, and the weather shows signs of breaking into a stable pattern of weather, with some dry and Spring sunny days. Temperatures will be on or above the average.
May ends on a warm note, with some pleasant sunshine from time to time, and this weather will see us into June as well, and whereas it won't be all plain sailing, with the prospect of a continuous run of fine weather it will, for the majority of the time, be a settled late Spring early Summer. Temperatures will end mild, and generally for the month, reflect above the average. Indeed, it will feel warm.
