Red carpet swish to rake place in Liverpool
Swishing, the means for the eco-chic to refresh their wardrobes with fabulous shoes, clothes and accessories, has been developed as a way to counteract the huge impact fashion has on the environment. Swishers bring to a meeting fabulous but unloved items of clothing, and then have one hour to browse others items before selecting their favourite offering.
To celebrate the evolution of her creation, Lucy Shea, Swishing founder and CEO of Futerra Sustainability Communications, is throwing a stylish Red Carpet Swish at the exclusive Andaz Liverpool Street Hotel’s Studio in early January.
The event is totally free and open to both men and women, so no one will go unswished.
Swishing was developed in an attempt to reduce the 900,000 tons of shoes and clothes thrown away in the UK each year, 75% of which ends up in landfill or is burned – increasing the pollution of our planet.
Apparently Swishing is now a worldwide craze. From The US to South Africa, New Zealand to Belgium, Swishing parties attract global fashionistas and significant media interest. Recent coverage has included Vogue, CNN, The BBC and Marie Claire. Swishing partners have included The BBC, The Women’s Institute, The V&A Museum, and international supermodel Erin O’Conner.
Lucy Shea says: “Swishing allows us to look fabulous, save the planet and have a party. The rate that Swishing has spread is amazing.† We hear inspiring stories of parties all over the world, and International Swishing Day celebrates the originality that every party and every country brings to the mix.
“Our post-Christmas Swish will provide everyone with the perfect opportunity to swap unwanted Christmas presents, making sure they get what they actually want this year. It’s shopping without the hangovers, January sales without the headache, new clothes without the price tag!”
