High efficiency is paramount

From 1 April 2005, the type of gas boiler you have installed in your home will have to comply with new building regulation Part L. Quite simply this means that if you’re installing a new boiler it has to be a high efficiency one.

Boilers are the least energy efficient appliances in the home and account for up to a third of all domestic CO2 emissions in the UK that contribute towards global warming.

All high efficiency boilers are condensing which means they convert more fuel into energy by using the latent heat which would in standard efficiency appliances, be lost through the flue.

Energy efficiency boilers can also save pounds for the homeowner.

Seasonal efficiency Flat Bungalow Terraced Semi-detached Detached
Old boiler (heavy weight) 55% £247 £324 £337 £381 £541
Old boiler (light weight) 65% £209 £274 £285 £323 £458
New boiler (non-condensing) 75% £181 £237 £247 £280 £397
New boiler (condensing) 88% £155 £202 £211 £239 £338

As boilers have a life expectancy of between 10 and 15 years, when choosing a new boiler it’s important to consider:

• Specification – will it meet your hot water and heating requirements now and in the future? For instance do you have or are planning an en-suite?
• Design - If it won’t be integrated, how will it look in the room? Is the design complementary to your home?
• Is the installer CORGI/ OFTEC registered? – if so, they’re judged as competent to undertake the installation. If not, they are not qualified to work on gas or oil products and could put you and your home at risk.
• Does the boiler manufacturer offer a good warranty and a support helpline should anything go wrong?

Worcester Bosch has a range of high efficiency boilers to suit all heating and hot water needs whether you live in a one bed-roomed flat or a five bedroom detached home.

The ever expanding Greenstar range are all SEDBUK A rated (the highest efficiency) and offer total peace of mind to the homeowner by combining over 40 years in the industry with the latest in technological innovations.

Its latest to the range are the Greenstar Ri and the Greenstar Highflow 440.
The Greenstar Ri is ideal for an apartment or a small house with a traditional heating and hot water system. Its compact measurements (600 x 390 x 270mm) means it fits comfortably into a standard kitchen cupboard.
The Greenstar Highflow 440 satisfies the demand for boilers with large DHW flow rates and has been designed to be installed under the kitchen work surface, in utility rooms and airing cupboards. It measures 850 x 600 x 600mm making it a floorstanding combi in standard white goods dimensions, and because it has a floor mounting jig there’s minimal risk of floors being damaged during installation.

The Worcester Bosch website www.worcester-bosch.co.uk can not only help you find the right boiler for you but also help find an installer that has been trained by Worcester Bosch.

Worcester Bosch has also produced a DVD, which not only helps you choose the right boiler but also gives handy hints and tips on saving energy in your home. Priced at £4.99, to request a copy call 0800 083 2373
