No better time to be energy efficient says EST

Head of the Energy Saving Trust (EST) in Northern Ireland, Noel Williams, is again urging householders to protect themselves against escalating gas, oil and electricity prices.

He says: "Yet again we are seeing price rises and this is bad news for families throughout Northern Ireland, especially with a predicted harsh winter ahead.

"The permanent solution to keeping bills low is an investment in energy-saving in the home and there is no better time to embrace energy efficiency.

"Simple measures like Installing just one energy-saving light bulb can save up to £9 to £10 a year off your energy bill, while fitting a hot water jacket will save up to £15 to £20.

"Switching off television and video standby lights and draught proofing will also help reduce the amount of fuel used in the home, therefore reducing carbon dioxide emissions and lessening the impact of higher energy bills on the household."

He points out that financial grants are available to help meet the cost of making homes more energy efficient. For more information about the grants available across Northern Ireland log onto the EST's website www.saveenergy.co.uk or call the Northern Ireland EST Advice Centre on Free Phone 0800 512 012.
