Photovoltaic systems for
domestic dwellings
The Centre for Alternative Technology
(CAT) has recently gained the status
of City and Guilds accredited training
centre, and will be running its first
City and Guilds course ‘Solar
Electrical Installation for Professionals’
on 9-13 May. CAT is one of the few
educational establishments in the
UK to run the course and will repeat
the course later in the year on 26
– 30 September.
The new course is intended for qualified
electricians who wish to install grid
connected Photovoltaic (PV) systems
onto a domestic dwelling. Both the
theoretical and practical elements
of PV installation are covered, and
on successful completion of the course,
participants will receive the City
and Guilds certificate in installing
domestic photovoltaic systems 2372.
Developed by IT Power, CREST, TNEI
and ISPQ with the support of the Carbon
Trust, the course was trialled last
year and is a recent addition to the
huge list of qualifications that City
and Guilds, the leading provider of
vocational qualifications in the UK,
offer.
The Centre for Alternative Technology
is ideally qualified to be a City
& Guilds training centre. Founded
in 1974 and situated in Mid Wales,
CAT is a display and education centre
offering practical ideas and information
on environmentally sound practices.
The centre has been providing practical
courses for 25 years and the course
staff have many years of 'hands on’
experience, backed up by academic
expertise in their subjects.
Further City and Guilds courses will
be available in the future, particularly
as part of the broader education programme
we plan to offer in our new educational
complex, WISE (Wales Institute for
Sustainable Education), which opens
late 2006.
All courses at CAT include full board.
