Unique combination of design
and academic study
The University of East London (UEL)
and the Centre for Alternative Technology
(CAT) are running a groundbreaking
programme of study, Professional Diploma
in Architecture: Advanced Environmental
and Energy Studies starting in September
2006 and is recruiting now.
The programme concentrates on a wide
range of current environmental issues
and offers a unique combination of
design and academic study with practical
experience. It will equip students
with design experience and the vocational
skills that are becoming increasingly
important, not only within the construction
industry but within the wider world.
Architecture students interact in
a multidisciplinary environment with
those from other professions; this
gives them excellent opportunities
for rich debate and sharing of experiences
as well as building on existing skills
The programme runs mainly as a series
of six-day residential events at CAT
and includes a study tour and a residential
Summer School in London.
The programme is suitable for those
students with an interest in developing
design expertise in an area of rapidly
increasing importance where significant
skill shortages are being reported.
They need to already have gained RIBA
Part 1 exemption and wish to study
for the RIBA Part 2 examination through
the subject of environment and energy
within the context of architectural
design.
The teaching programme will begin
in September 2006 and will be delivered
over eighteen months in a series of
modules by staff from UEL, CAT and
specialist visitors from the architectural
profession and other related fields.
Initial discussions have taken place
with the Royal Institute of British
Architects (RIBA) and the programme
is working towards candidate course
status for validation for exemption
from the RIBA Part 2 examination.
