No fee registration
for possible 5 - 10p savings per litre
The recently launched
Pipeline Card, is offer petrol discounts
of between 5p and 10p a litre on petrol
according to Pipeline founder and
fuel campaigner Ben Scammell.

He says: "Our idea is very simple.
If we can accumulate enough members,
we can buy petrol at a discount -
just like some major corporates do.
We already have an agreement in principle
with a major fuel retailer to supply
petrol to us at a reduced price."
"We just need enough people
to sign up online at www.pipelinecard.org
to increase our numbers to that critical
level."
"There is no charge for the
card, no registration fees, and no
other costs. It's a very straightforward
bulk-buying proposition."
So far over 50,000 people have registered
but Ben Scammell needs around 250,000
on board to achieve maximum discounts.
He is confident that this will happen
by Spring 2006 when he plans to have
the scheme up and running.
He says: "Lots of people have
said that cheaper petrol will encourage
people to drive more. The reality
of that is untrue because there's
very little "hobby driving".
The most part driving means getting
to work and doing essential tasks
and trips."
"I don't think anybody on this
planet wants to be any more ecologically
unfriendly than they have to be. We
are trying to look after the interests
of the motorists and get all those
essential tasks done at a slightly
cheaper rate. So we are certainly
not promoting the use of petrol in
an extravagant way!"
Currently the scheme is aimed at
saving money for individual motorists,
but Ben could soon be looking at corporate
registration too!
