It’s still a motorised
vehicle!
A press report on a new hydrogen
powered motorbike that produces no
polluting emissions, is quick and
as quiet as a laptop, has prompted
this letter to The Guardian newspaper
from a Green Member of the London
Assembly.
Dear Sir,
Life's full of dilemmas about how
to save the planet, isn't it? Your
article on the new hydrogen powered
motorbike (It's green, it's clean
and it's, er, too quiet 16/3/05) made
it look very attractive - it won't
foul the air, it will reduce noise
pollution, and it will help kickstart
the hydrogen fuel economy that we
so desperately need in Britain.
But, and it's a huge but, it's still
a motorised vehicle, will still cause
community disruption and crowded streets,
and its quiet running could result
in more road deaths and injuries because
people don't hear it coming. Also,
the hydrogen has to be produced from
non nuclear, renewables and there
is a real shortage of them in this
country because of Government inaction.
Overall, it seems a step in the right
direction. Let's hope that very loud
horns are obligatory.
