Local authorities urged to
take note!
While Russia remains in the grip
of a record cold spell, with temperatures
in some parts of the country plunging
as low as -60oC, Britain and Many
parts of continental Europe are likely
to suffer a similar fate. According
to Sixth Sense, the international
risk meteorologists, the UK's curent6
mild spell is set to end with a shock
to thesystem.
Senior weather analyst, John Kettley,
says: "Next week will see the
slow, perhaps rather erratic onset
of what could well be a lengthy spell
of severe weather, both across Western
Europe and, eventually, the UK."
Freezing weather already affecting
the Baltic states, Finland and Russia,
looks set to migrate southwards and
westwards into most if not all parts
of Europe as next week unfolds, eventually
hitting the UK.
Kettley confirms: "Penetrating
frosts and outbreaks of sleet or snow
will also become widespread as the
cold deeps, with often strong winds
adding a significant chill factor."
"Moreover , the expected synoptic
pattern by early February suggest
cold continental weather could be
the predominant feature for the first
half of the new month with furjer
snow to come at times as well as some
sharp overnight frosts,"
It is suggested that in the UK, southern
and eastern England are likely to
be worst affected, but severe wintry
conditions can be expected for almost
anywhere!
Kettley warns: "Weather sensitive
businesses, energy futures traders,
sporting venues and local authorities
in particular are urged to take note."
So are the gritters up to strength
and will the railways be able to cope
or will the UK once again be caught
with its proverbial trousers down?
We shall see!
The good news is that spring is just
around the corner. Who says?
