The latest development in CCTV security
is ‘REMOTE VIEW’, which
is set to open up a whole new range
of uses for CCTV security for businesses
and homeowners.
Remote view CCTV enables the user
to view images generated by CCTV cameras
over the internet, in real time with
smooth, digitally generated images
that offer time and date stamping
and easy storage on a PC or Digital
Video Recorder.
New standards led by BS8418, developed
in conjunction with the Home Office
and the Association of Chief Police
Officers (ACPO) state that the police
will no longer respond to false alarms
generated by traditional telephone
line operated alarm systems. Essentially,
after 2 false alarms from one site,
the priority to attend by the police
is now virtually nil and they can
now insist on visual verification
to attend many incidents.
Remote view systems allow any number
of cameras to be viewed from one location,
and some of the more interesting and
innovative uses include staff surveillance
particularly where stock and cash
is handled, studying customer behaviour
in retail outlets and how product
displays and point of sale material
drives traffic and influences purchasing
decisions, customer flow such as in
banks, stock loss surveillance either
in retail outlets, storerooms or warehouses,
goods delivery and despatch.
Save manpower
and money
Other uses can save manpower and money,
for example one security guard can
monitor a number of sites from various
cameras in one central location. Companies
buying in manufacturing operations
can install cameras within the factory
to ensure that health and safety and
product quality are to the agreed
and expected standard.
Remote view CCTV can also be used
in applications such as holiday homes,
owners can ensure their property is
safe from anywhere in the world and
by adding motion detection which offers
audio and verbal messaging by SMS
can be warned of break ins, vandalism
and even early warning of fire.
